The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) stopped crisis loans and community care grants in April 2013. Slough Borough Council is now administering the Local Welfare Provision (LWP) which will aim to:
An award will normally be a one off payment, normally in goods or services, as a short term fix to prevent a long term problem.
The DWP funded Local Welfare Provision for two years and since April 2015, we have chosen to fund this service.
We will consider whether an application meets the criteria for Local Welfare Provision and that there are still funds available.
You need to be at least 16 years old to apply, and unable to obtain other public funds for the application.

An application for an award from the Local Welfare Provision can only be made once in 6 months. If an award has previously been declined and a new application is presented for the same need, a new award will not be considered.
We have agreed to set a cash limited fund of £275,000, for 2016-17, to administer and pay for Local Welfare Provision.
