Emergencies and major incidents can happen at any time and take many forms:
Our emergency planning section ensures that the council is able to respond to emergencies in the local area. The council maintains an emergency plan. This explains how we work with the local community during an emergency, whilst maintaining essential council services.
In recent years, the plan has been used to respond to emergencies such as flooding, fire, loss of power and water to homes and businesses in the town. The plan also lists how we work with the local emergency services and other organisations to provide additional help.
During a major incident we work with the other five councils in Berkshire. The Berkshire Major Incident Protocol provides a summary of the roles and responsibilities of the councils and the emergency services.
