Equality impact assessments

Before major decisions are made, policy makers must assess the equality implications they can have on staff or our service users.

Policies may affect different groups of people in different ways, and they may have an adverse or negative impact. This must be identified and addressed.

The Equality Act 2010 legally requires public authorities to show they have considered the above. We do this through Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs).
