Support for carers of people with mental health problems

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT) carer information

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT) is a specialist mental health and community health services Trust. BHFT operate from more than 100 sites across the county including community hospitals clinics and GP practices. Adult Mental Health Services across Berkshire are provided through Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs), inpatient services and Crisis and Home Treatment Services. The vast majority of the people we care for are supported in their own homes, and given skills to manage their own health conditions to promote independence and dignity, but we also have 171 inpatient beds.

Working in partnership with patients and their families is extremely important to us as this helps us to provide the best care in the right place. BHFT is a member of the Triangle of Care initiative, which is a set of standards ensuring that family, friends and carers are included and supported by Health and Social Care services, and which emphasises the need for better involvement of carers and families in the care planning and treatment of people with mental ill health.
The support available to carers differs slightly in each of the localities of BHFT, but useful information can be found at:
