Business Administration & Customer Services Apprenticeship

Slough Borough Council is working in partnership with arvato to deliver Apprenticeships in Business Administration and Customer Service. The apprenticeship will be with either Slough Borough Council or arvato under the relevant terms and conditions.

The Business Administration and Customer Service Level 2 Apprenticeship Scheme is aimed at young people who want to achieve a nationally recognised qualification while gaining valuable work experience. Apprentices are employed on a 52 week contract which commences on Monday 11 September 2017.

We have 20 Business Administration apprenticeship vacancies and five Customer Service Apprenticeships available.

We are looking for candidates who want to take their first step into the world of work to learn, earn and train in a structured program. The apprenticeship scheme gives work experience that will act as a foundation to your future career. It has been recognised by Ofsted and graded as “Good”.

Breakdown of the scheme

The scheme:

  • is a full time role
  • from 9am to 5pm (fixed hours) for SBC training
  • from 8:30am to 5:30pm (fixed hours) for arvato training
  • lasts for 52 weeks.

The successful candidates will be asked to sign a fixed-term contract.

After your first week of induction you will be placed in a department either in a Slough Borough Council or an arvato location, where you will work with a team of people who have the responsibility to train you in a wide range of administration skills. You will either have two six month placements or one 12 month placement.

You will have an allocated assessor from ATG who will meet with you every eight weeks to support you with your Diploma and guide you through the evidence you will be required to collect for your personal e-portfolio.

For people that require assistance with either their Maths or English, Slough Borough Council’s Community Learning and Skills Team run classes on site once a week to support you with numeracy and literacy skills. In addition, there are a wide range of corporate training courses for you to attend in the duration of your apprenticeship, which are all designed to maximise your work and life skills.

To ensure you are developing your administration or customer service skills and are progressing with your apprenticeship, either Elizabeth Lennon or Sara McCaugherty, work placement co-ordinators, will meet with you and your line manager every 10 weeks. This is your opportunity to talk about the progress you are making and whether you are meeting your own personal targets towards the Level 2 framework.

If placed with Slough Borough Council, once you have completed your first six months you will be moved to a second placement providing you with the valuable opportunity to work in a different office with a new team of people. You will have the chance to develop new skills and learn about different office practices and systems. If placed with arvato, you will continue to broaden and develop your existing skills within the same team.

Although there is no guarantee of employment at the end of your fixed term contract, we will support you with applying for vacancies both within Slough Borough Council and arvato and also externally.

Requirements

You don't need any qualifications to apply but must:

  • be between 16 and 18 years old
  • live in Slough (for SBC training).
