Requests and suggestions
What if you don’t have a book I want?
If you can’t find the book you want on the library catalogue http://slough.spydus.co.uk, you can ask us to get it for you. Request charges are higher than reserving a book in stock. See list of charges.
- You can now request books from other libraries in the SELMS consortium of which Slough Libraries is a member. If the book is not in stock at a SELMS library we may be able to buy a copy or borrow it from another library authority. All requests will be considered using Slough Libraries’ stock policy.
- We may sometimes need to borrow an out of print book from the British Library which will have an additional charge.
Request a book not on the catalogue
- If you have searched for a book at Slough's public library catalogue http://slough.spydus.co.uk and it says not in stock, click on 'Try this search in the SELMS Library Network Catalgoue'. If available, click on the title you want to reserve for the full bibliographic record of the book and then click on 'Place reservation'. Enter your library card number and PIN. A charge will be added to your account. (Not got a PIN? Just ask a member of staff.)
- If the item is not available from libraries in the SELMS consortium you can make your request at any of our libraries or you can email library@slough.gov.uk with the details and all charges will be added to your account.
- If you email a book request, please give as many details about the book as possible to help us find it for you eg, author, title, ISBN, publisher, edition. Please also give your name, library card number and a telephone number and say from which library you would like to pick the book up.
- If we need to apply to the British Library, you will need to visit the library and sign a form.
Request a journal article
If you can’t find the magazine or journal you need on the library catalogue http://slough.spydus.co.uk, you can request a journal article. We will try to get a copy from the British Library.
- Articles can only be requested for private study or research, not for commercial purposes. A small charge will be made. See library charges for more details.
- Please visit your nearest library or you can email library@slough.gov.uk and all charges will be made to your account.
- If you email your request, please give as much detail as possible to help ensure we can get it for you, eg title/author of article, title/date of journal, journal volume number or part number, page numbers of article. Please also give your name, library card number and a telephone number and say from which library you would like to pick the article up.
- Due to copyright rules you will need to collect your copy from the library of your choice and sign a form. If you want to keep the photocopied article, you will need to pay an extra fee at the standard photocopying rate.
Suggest a book, DVD, video or music
We welcome all suggestions as a means of improving what’s available in our libraries. Please use our stock suggestion online form to tell us what you would like us to buy for the library.
We will consider whether it’s likely to be popular and also suitable in accordance with Slough Libraries stock policy. We cannot guarantee to buy any suggestion.
Please use the stock suggestion form if you can’t find the music or film you are looking for on the library catalogue as there is no national scheme to enable us to borrow DVDs, videos, CDs and other audio-visual items from other libraries.
