Computing courses
Free computing courses are offered at the Library Learn UK online centre at Slough Library and at Britwell, Cippenham and Langley Libraries. We provide basic to advanced levels of training and support in a friendly and relaxed environment. Our training is informal yet structured in order to make learning fun and enjoyable.
Beginners' courses for adults
Basic computing for beginners
This course provides the first steps into the exciting world of computers! It covers:
- Names and functions of computer components (week 1)
- Basics of using the mouse and keyboard (week 1 & / or 2)
- Introduction to the internet and exploring various websites (week 2 or 3)
- Using a search engine (week 2 or 3)
- Registering for an email address ( week 3 or 4)
- Sending and receivng emails (week 3 or 4 or 5)
No experience is required. This course is not accredited. Please contact our ICT Co-ordinator, Afsheen Lodhi, on 01753 787531 or email ukonline@slough.gov.uk for advice if you are unsure whether this course is the right start for you.
Further beginners courses for adults
Once you have completed the Basic computing for beginners course you can join:
- Introduction Microsoft Word
- Introduction to MicrosoftExcel
- Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint
- Using a digital camera with a computer (beginners)
We also offer advice and information about further learning and employment opportunities on completion of your basic ICT training.
Other courses for adults
Courses are also available for:
- Using a digital camera with a computer (intermediate)
- Video conferencing
- CV writing and job searching by Next Step, the organisation offering information, advice and guidance on learning and work in Berkshire

Children's and family computing courses
We sometimes offer computing courses for all the family to enjoy as part of our programme of family learning events. Computing activites are also organised for children during holiday times and other special times of year.
