The Mayor’s Awards 2007, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Slough, aim to recognise citizens who have made an outstanding contribution to the community in the area.
There are two award categories:
Mayor of Slough, Councillor David MacIsaac, said: “As Slough’s first citizen I want to recognise and honour those people who go above and beyond for our town, giving their time and energy to making Slough a better place.”
Last year's Citizen of the Year award was presented to Eleanor Cryer, who has been chief executive of Slough Mencap for nearly 30 years. She was recognised for her numerous roles in voluntary work in Slough and her inspirational and supportive actions.
The Young Citizen of the Year went to 13-year-old Ryan Gale, who has never allowed his learning difficulties to hold him back in life. He was nominated by his form teacher for his gifted and talented athletic and artistic skills and diplomatic manner.
Thank you to everyone who nominated - the closing date for this year's awards has now passed. The winners in each category will be presented with their award at the prestigious mayor-making ceremony in May, when the mayor for the new civic year is elected.
