The new summer season at the West Wing Arts Centre is packed with thrilling theatre and music, charming children’s theatre, comedy and workshops.
Music highlights over the coming months include English folk legend Martin Carthy on Saturday 12 July. The talented Andy McKee with his awe inspiring guitar playing that has received over 20 million hits on You Tube will be here on Friday 9 May! Experience the pure sound of India on a sensory and uplifting journey with the sarod, sitar and tabla in an Indian Classical Recital on Saturday 3 May.
On the theatre front, we’re excited to be welcoming Shifting Sands Theatre Company with The Deadline on Wednesday 9 May a comical fantasy of deceit, double cross and murder. The Pilgrimage of the Heart set in Shanghai, 1943 will play for two nights on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 May. Adapted from Lust, Caution by the Shanghainese writer Eileen Zhang, this tells a gripping yet compassionate tale of taboo in pre-communist China.
Children’s theatre continues to be innovative and enjoyable with One, Two Zebra Zoo on Saturday 3 May. This bounce-along, sing-along, clap-along musical storytelling with puppets features tales and rhythms from West and South Africa and England. Another highlight includes one of the best children’s stories every written The Secret Garden that is brought to the stage on Saturday 31 May!
Get a little Latin fever in July with our Latin Festival on 18 to 19 July including music, dance, a Kids Karnival, food and drink to get you in the mood!
Splurge Gun Gangsters, Showgirls, Gamblers and Dreamers take over in August with the West Wing Summer School’s second full scale musical production of Bugsy Malone. Last year’s production of High School Musical was a roaring success and this promises to be even better!
