Upton Court Park will host one of its largest ever public events in Slough as Music and Dance in the Park welcomes mega star Jools Holland and his 18 piece Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.
Music and Dance in the Park, organised by Slough Borough Council, will see Jools Holland joined by special guests Marc Almond, Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall, after an array of local and international acts, including the Magic of Motown.
The event will take place on Sunday August 3rd from 1pm to 9pm.
Music and Dance in the Park follows the highly successful Dance in the Square events from previous years, due to the town square’s revitalisation work.
The council took the decision to move the event to Upton Court Park and take advantage of its extra capacity.
Music and Dance in the Park will be a family event, with festival goers encouraged to arrive early with a picnic and blanket. There will also be a wide variety of food stalls and a licensed bar.
Other acts reflect the event’s dance heritage with crowd pleasers the Black Eagles and the Physical Jerks returning, and Nikita with musicians. There’ll also be music from Jazz Orient and the Latin Jazz Band, together with samba and flamenco dancers.
Ruth Bagley, chief executive for Slough Borough Council said: “I’m delighted we’ve put together such a high profile event in Slough and have attracted such big names as Jools Holland and the Magic of Motown.
“We’ve taken a lot of care to make the event as appealing to our residents as possible, with the inclusion of a diversity of musicians and dancers from around the world, as well as from within the borough.
”We’ve designed the festival for a family audience and under 12s, accompanied by a parent, can go for free. As well as being a wonderful day out for our residents, Music and Dance in the Park will also act as a showcase for the artistic and community efforts we’re making to ensure Slough remains a great place to live and work.”
Tickets for the event are priced at £12.00 plus a £2.00 handling charge per ticket, with under 12s going free with a paying adult, and will go on sale on Friday 30 May. To buy your tickets for Music and Dance in the Park please visit the Ticketmaster website or call 0844 8472359.
