Slough Borough Council has published a Good Practice Guide for the Asian wedding catering sector.
Slough is a town with a significant Asian minority. With a total population of 119,000 residents, more than a quarter are Asian, with 14.04% from India and 12.06% from Pakistan.
As a result, Asian wedding functions and parties are regular events. This means large numbers of people from both within Slough and other parts of the country being served high-risk food such as meat, salads and dairy products over several days.
As with any large event, this means a food poisoning incident is not unlikely. The Good practice Guide has been published in order to avoid such an incident.
Kulwant Randhawa, environmental health officer, said: "We hope this guide will help to make people aware of the risks involved with serving food to large numbers of people at these occasions, so everyone gets to have a great time and go home healthy".
