Mums and dads of tiny tots up to one year old are being invited to a special series of baby massage classes at Chalvey Grove Children’s Centre.
The classes are being held every Wednesday from 28 February until 28 March from 10am to 11.30am and any new mum or dad, and even grandmums and grandads or carers, are welcome to bring their bouncing baby to be pampered.
Special mats, massage lotions, instructions, advice and handouts are all provided; and it is all for just £25 for the five week course which is run by Jo Mullin who was trained by the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).
Baby massage is known to be beneficial to both baby and parents or carers with participants reporting baby sleeping better, improved bonding and new friendships being made with other parents taking part.
Regular massage for tots also promotes love, can provide relief from colic, improves confidence in both baby and parent and for parents; a time to sit with other parents and chat about anything!
Councillor Shabnum Sadiq, cabinet member for children and education, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for new parents – or any family member – to try this activity with their baby.
“Often being at home with a small baby can be a lonely experience and trying something like baby massage on your own if you don’t know what you are doing can seem strange.
“This is a really good way to meet other new parents, spend time with baby outside the home – where I know chores can often loom – learn a new skill and improve you and your baby’s wellbeing.”
Anyone wanting to attend should call Jo on 01753 574420 or email Johanna.Mullin@slough.gov.uk to book a place, as spaces are limited.
If you can’t make this series of classes, or haven’t yet given birth, more baby massage sessions will be held after Easter in a variety of children’s centres.
