Starting Well dentist practices in Slough will be holding an open day on February 20 in half term to encourage parents with young children to come along and introduce them to the dentist.
Slough currently has the highest tooth decay rate in the South East and is one of 13 towns that has been identified nationally under the Starting Well:A Smile4Life Initative, where tooth decay in under fives is at a particularly high level.
As well as the open days, professionals from the healthy smiles team have been visiting children’s centres across the borough to raise awareness about tooth decay and sugar.
The council’s public health team and dentists have also been working very closely with local schools, to help with oral health education and facilitate supervised brushing.
Come along to one of the following dentist surgeries on February 20 and join in the fun, or call ahead to book your child’s first dentist appointment – it’s free!

Cllr Natasa Pantelic, cabinet member for health and social care, said: “Good oral hygiene is important from an early age and so reducing the amount of sugar in a young person’s diet, brushing teeth twice a day, and, registering with a dentist is what the healthy smiles campaign is promoting in Slough.
“Everyone is welcome to come along to their local dentist practices and learn more about good oral health - do drop in this Wednesday especially to meet your local dentist and have a conversation about how you can keep your children’s teeth healthy.”
