Two people of the same sex, over the age of 18 (or 16 with consent), free to enter the contract (ie not already married or in a civil partnership), not within the forbidden degrees of relationship.
Both partners will need to give notice of their intention to form a civil partnership and this has to be done in the local authority area where they each live. Evidence of identity, age, nationality, residence and freedom to form the partnership will be required. Sixteen days must elapse before the signing of the partnership register can take place during which time the notice will be displayed to the public.
The law states only that both parties must sign the partnership register in the presence of a civil partnership registration officer and 2 witnesses.
Obviously, many couples would like to celebrate their partnerships and it will be possible to enhance the basic ceremony with music and readings. It would also be possible to complete the registration and have a ceremony in an outside venue for which there would be higher charges.
The ceremonies can take place at the Bradford Room (formerly the register office), or at any venue already approved for civil marriages.
The notice of intention to form a civil partnership will cost £33.50 each.
In the Bradford Room, the fee for the signing of the schedule depends on the day of the ceremony:
Fees for outside venues vary with the day and time:
