The Lamplight

Marking where the pedestrian area starts outside Marks and Spencer and Debenhams sits the Lamplight.

Created by artist Simon Watkinson it is a cube with an image of an old style lantern laser cut inside, set upon a granite column. The cube glows different colours at night.

It is designed to reflect that in the past, decorative lanterns were suspended along the length of the High Street.

At the other end of the pedestrian area are two corresponding columns of light, set in granite plinths which also glow different colours at night.
