Schools are free to choose how they provide school meals. In Slough, twenty three schools are part of a central contract with Scolarest.
Scolarest is the UK’s leading provider of school meals. Part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, they deliver a range of catering services to 2,500 state schools, colleges and universities. Since 2000, they have been working with schools in Slough and currently provide nearly 800,000 lunches a year at 23 local schools.
For many years, Scolarest have been at the forefront of improving the quality of school meals in the UK and remain committed to providing young customers with school food which is both good for them and tastes great.
Designed by a specialist team of chefs and nutritionists, all Scolarest menus always meet or exceed the Government’s school meal standards and have been created specifically to appeal to customers. The focus is on healthy, balanced food which gives children and young people the energy they need to sustain them right through the school day. This autumn, Scolarest is launching a new generation of school meals which they think are going to be more popular with children than ever.
Food safety is paramount and Scolarest only use suppliers and producers who meet the highest food safety standards. You can also be completely confident about the source of their products and ingredients which can all be traced back to the original supplier. They always aim to use homegrown UK produce where possible and when it is seasonally available.
Through its Journey to Good Health approach, Scolarest also works with schools, parents, governors and pupils to ensure that everyone is fully involved in encouraging children and young people to enjoy the benefits of healthy eating. They believe in helping students to learn more about food and giving them the opportunity to gain practical cookery skills. The company’s Putting Fun Back into Food programme delivers exciting, interactive food-based events in schools including cookery competitions, nutrition workshops, tasting sessions and cookery courses for children and parents.
