Cleaner Safer Greener is Slough Borough Council’s campaign to create quality spaces where people to want to live and can be proud - and which others will respect.
Safe, well-maintained and attractive public spaces have a huge role in creating pride in the places we live. This helps build community cohesion and successful communities. That's why we are committed to make Slough’s public spaces cleaner, safer, greener places that enhance the quality of life in our neighbourhoods and town centre.
To prevent crime and cut the fear of crime is a top priority, as well as to increase:
The town centre is the economic and social heart of Slough’s community. Although we have made significant progress to improve our town centre, we have to sustain the momentum.
The mile-long High Street has recently been transformed and is now a modern and pleasant place to visit with new:
The key priorities the council and our partners are actively working on are to:
Green spaces give so much to our health and happiness, and meets our aim to create sustainable communities. Our challenge now is to spread the benefits more widely and reach every community and every type of green space.
Despite its urban appearance, Slough has more than 50 parks, green areas and open spaces of all shapes and sizes.
The historic Victorian parkland of Herschel Park is currently being restored to its former glory and over the next two years, 22 children’s play areas across the borough are being completely revamped with new natural equipment.
Two brand new play areas are also being planned in two of Slough’s largest parks – Upton Court Park and Salt Hill Park.
Winding through the borough is also the Slough arm of the Grand Union Canal. With access points from Langley through to the terminus at Stoke Road it is a popular place for walking and cycling.
Responsibility to create and sustain decent places goes beyond Communities and Local Government and Government - everyone has a role to play, including the public.
We can all make a difference to our local environment. Through a few small changes in our everyday lives, we can all enjoy a cleaner, safer, greener Slough:
