Foot and Mouth
Following the finding of foot and mouth at a farm in Wraysbury, DEFRA have amended the protection and surveillance zones.
This affects the Slough area, part of which is now in the protection zone.
The protection zone border now transects the Slough Borough Council area in Colnbrook with Poyle. The surveillance zone still covers the majority of the rest of the borough.
Signs marking the border of the protection zone will be in place tomorrow (Tuesday 2 October). The current surveillance zone signs are being moved to reflect the new borders.
There are no public footpaths in the area of Slough currently affected by the protection zone.

Bluetongue
A Bluetongue outbreak has now been declared, with a control zone, and a wider protection zone.
The protection zone is similar to the foot and mouth surveillance zone and extends 150km from the outbreak area in Suffolk, taking in a large amount of England, including Slough.

Following confirmation of a further outbreak of foot and mouth at a farm on the borders of Surrey and Berkshire, DEFRA has released a revised declaration of protection and surveillance zones.
The surveillance zone now covers the majority of the borough of Slough - except the Priory area. No parts of Slough are currently in the protection zone.
New signs will be placed on roads where they cross the border of the surveillance zone.
Slough's parks and footpaths are not closed to the public at this time.
The following advice has been issued by DEFRA
Within the protection zone, you are asked:
not to use footpaths or rights of way marked as closed
not to stray from the right of way onto grazing land
not to walk amongst livestock
not to touch or handle livestock
to keep dogs on a lead and avoid any contact with livestock nearby
to take any waste, including food, home
to use any disinfectant footpads or baths which the landowner provides
not to take or ride horses in or out of the protection zone
It is an offence to use footpaths or rights of way closed by the Local Authority or to remove or deface Local Authority closure notices.
Within the surveillance zone:
The only restriction is that dogs must be kept on a lead. However, you are asked to use the countryside sensibly and be mindful of these precautions.
