Responses to the High Street Traffic Management Consultation

Art at the Centre is intended to improve the town centre of Slough by making it a more vibrant and appealing place in which to live, visit and work.

Traffic improvement measures have been proposed in order to provide better access to the shopping area for both pedestrians and vehicles, as well as improve traffic flow through the town centre and nearby roads. They entail:

A 20 mph zone to reduce the likelihood of serious accidents
Kerb adjustments and areas of raised carriageway to manage speeds and assist pedestrians
Changes to parking / loading and other kerbside controls to reduce the likelihood of accidents and congestion

The proposed measures have been the subject of a consultation process involving a workshop with key stakeholders in August 2007 and a three week public consultation exercise in October 2007. The main purpose of this process was to inform stakeholders and members of the public, living in and using the town centre, of the traffic management measures proposed as part of the Art at the Centre scheme and to seek their views on these.
