Insuring your council home

Are your belongings insured against theft, fire, vandalism or burst water pipes?

You may believe that renting from the council means that we automatically insure your furniture, belongings and decoration against theft, fire and burst water pipe damage. But this is not the case and many people are left with unexpected bills when the damage has been done.

We can offer a weekly-paid, low-cost affordable scheme, which will make it easier for you to get cover and have some peace of mind. We arrange it all with Norwich Union Insurance Limited.

How much is it?

The cost depends on the value of your possessions. When you are working out how much your things are worth make sure that you do not underestimate – or you may not get everything back if you have to make a claim.

For tenants over 60 years, the weekly cost starts at just £1.19 for insurance cover up to £7000! If you are under 60 years, the weekly cost starts at only £1.70 a week for £10,000 and then goes up to in stages of 17p for every extra £1,000 of cover.

There are no hidden costs, and you can pay your premium weekly or monthly at the same time as your rent.
