In October 2008, we rolled out the new red bin recycling scheme. A telephone survey asking residents if they used the new red recycling bins was carried out in March 2009. To find the recycling survey results log onto Slough's consultation portal.
The red bin replaces the old black box scheme and aims to make recycling as easy as possible and part of everyone’s weekly routine. Red bins can be used to recycle glass bottles and jars, paper and card, cans, and plastic bottles. These items should be put into the red bin loose and not in bags or liners.
Recycling in flats will also be upgraded very soon to give all residents in flats the same opportunities to recycle as other householders across the borough.
Residents will see specially branded vehicles around the town picking up the weekly recycling collections, with the message, ‘lets recycle more.’

For more details you will find below:
Around 24 percent of Slough's rubbish currently gets recycled. We need to increase recycling in coming years to protect the environment and natural resources.
As well as the red bin scheme, 25 mini recycling centres are provided around the borough where other recyclable materials can be deposited. See below for a list of centres.
Chalvey Waste and Recycling Centre provides a wide range of recycling facilities for household waste. By using the centre your are doing your bit to improve Slough’s recycling rate and helping the environment. Items such as fridges and freezers, car batteries, CDs and DVDs, paint tins and spent aerosols can all be recycled there.
