Slough children’s trust brings together all agencies and organisations in Slough who work with children and young people. The aim is is to improve their well being and that of their families.
For example, the children’s trust will see the local authority, health, police, voluntary and community organisations all working together to deliver more integrated services.
Children's trusts are a response to Lord Laming's report of the inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbié. This report showed the extent to which better co-operation and communication are crucial.
The evidence from the inquiry confirmed many of the messages from previous inquiries into similar child protection failings: it is imperative to see and listen to children and respond to their needs, and to improve the quality of communication and joint working.
And so, Children's trusts have been created to build upon, bring together and formalise the joint work that is already taking place in many local areas.
The government expects all local authority areas to have a children’s trust by 2008.
The children and young people’s plan, which every local authority area must have in place, is the key document which gives strategic direction for all children’s services in the area. It has been made in conjunction with partner agencies across the children’s trust and forms the basis of the trusts approach to service delivery.
The plan and the children’s trust as a whole aims to deliver improved life chances and opportunities for all children and young people in Slough. It aims to improve outcomes under the five areas identified by children and young people as their universal ambitions, namely to:
