Slough Borough Council is monitoring the situation with swine flu in Slough, alongside colleagues in the Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Liam Donaldson has stated that like all flu viruses there is a risk that some people will become seriously ill, but stressed that in the vast majority of people the illness was mild and passed within a few days.
The council has a dedicated flu team who are monitoring the outbreak and organising the council’s response and there are business continuity plans in place to ensure essential services are maintained in the event of staff sickness.
No council services are affected at this time.
The symptoms of swine flu are broadly the same as those of ordinary flu. Typical symptoms are a sudden fever and sudden cough. Other symptoms may include:
