Application Procedure - Windows, Doors, Rooflights & the Regularisation of Unauthorized Building Work Carried Out Since November 1985

The application methods discussed below are for:

• work which involves the installation of new windows, doors and roof-lights
• regularisation of unauthorized building work carried out since November 1985

Building notice for replacement of windows, doors and roof-lights

This form of application is very similar to to the building notice procedure.  The following information / plans are required:

• A location plan to a scale of not less than 1:2500 showing the position of the building in relation to adjoining boundaries
• A drawing or written statement indicating/confirming the existing and proposed unobstructed openable sizes (height and width) of all windows to habitable rooms
• Details of safety glass in critical locations

If the work involves any structural alterations (e.g. widening of openings) then structural details/calculations will be required.

Regularisation Certificate

The building regulations make provision for people who have carried out unauthorised building work. Unauthorised work carried out since November 1985 can be approved retrospectively, subject to certain requirements. This may entail opening up sufficient elements of the structure for us to inspect the work. If the work complies with the regulations a regularisation certificate can be issued.
