Almost any physical activity and sport can be used to fulfil this section of the Award. The most important thing to show is a general improvement in the activity, over a period of time.
The skills section covers a wide range of activities - both physical and mental. The aim is to encourage the discovery and development of hobbies and social skills.
This section involves offering practical help to the local community. Activities can include helping conservation groups or the police, taking part in first aid courses or helping to run a local youth club. This activity should take place over a period of time, which varies, according to which award you choose.
This section aims to encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery. It involves an expedition as part of a group of 4 to 7 people, through unfamiliar country. The distance and duration of the expedition varies according to the level of the award. The expedition is usually carried out on foot (other options such as cycling or canoeing are being developed). Before undertaking the expedition, the participants attend courses of instruction and are fully prepared for their qualifying expeditions. Participants are expected to be fully self-sufficient during the expedition. They carry their own food and equipment and do their own cooking as appropriate.
