Anti-social behaviour and nuisance

Anti-social behaviour means:

• any action that is capable or likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress to any other person other than a person living in your home;
• or hate crime which comes from those motivated by a feeling of hostility against any group of people in society;
• or race crime which is an incident believed to have happened because of someone’s race

Acts of anti-social behaviour and/or nuisance which will be investigated by the anti-social behaviour team which includes, but is not limited to:

• damage to property
• racial harassment
• harassment
• verbal insults
• illegal dumping of rubbish
• thoughtless parking
• playing loud music
• overgrown gardens
• graffiti
• out of control pets

In most cases we work in partnership with the:

• police
• our community safety and neighbourhood enforcement team
• probation
• community mental health team
• other agencies

If you are a victim of anti-social behaviour, you may need to contact the police, for instance if you have been racially abused or physically assaulted.

You also need to report the incident to the relevant anti-social behaviour officer who will:

• take your complaint;
• advise you on how long the initial investigation will take and;
• advise what action, if any, can be taken by the team
