Do I need to register my Dog?
Domestic dogs (and cats) do not need a licence. There are two exceptions to this:
The following dogs, and also cross-bred pit-bulls, are considered to be dangerous dogs under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991:
It is illegal to possess such a dog without a certificate of exemption, which is granted once the dog is neutered, insured, and has a micro-chip implant. These dogs cannot be in a public place without being muzzled and being securely kept on a lead by a person who is not less than 16 years old.
Secondly wild animals - such as wolves and jackals will need a wild animal licence available from the council
My dog is missing. Can you help?
For information on stray dogs, responsible dog ownership or the dog waste bins and by-law contact the consumer protection team on (01753) 875255.
What is microchipping?
This is a tiny implant - no bigger than a grain of rice - is inserted under the dog’s skin and you are registered on a national database. If your dog strays and is found you can be notified straight away. Contact your local vet for more information or call the RSPCA clinic in Hillingdon on 01895 231435.
