Why should I disclose financial information to your department in relation to my home care or day care?
There are now charges for many services arranged by Social Services. Many people do not pay anything towards their service because they are on low incomes. What we charge varies according to people’s means, and we ask you to complete a form giving details of your financial circumstances, so that we can be sure that you are only charged what you can afford.
What will happen if I do not wish to disclose any financial details?
If you do not wish to disclose your financial details you will be responsible for the full cost of the services, which is £14.40 per hour for home care and £30 per day for Day care.
What is my chargeable income? Is that how much I need to pay?
Your chargeable income is the maximum you will be asked to pay for either home care or day care. This does not necessarily mean this is the amount you will need to pay. This will depend on what level of service you are receiving.
If the value of your care package is less than your chargeable income, you will only need to pay for the services being received. This is calculated by £14.40 per hour for home care and £30.00 per day for day care.
When will I receive my first invoice? Where can I pay?
You will receive your first invoice approximately 6 weeks after the start of your service. We will then send out invoices on a four weekly basis. You can pay at the Customer Service Centre, The Post Office, over the phone by Debit card and we can also arrange a standing order.
What can I do if I feel that I cannot afford to pay?
If you are unable to afford to pay the assessed charge, or think it has been wrongly calculated, you can appeal against it.
Please contact us on 01753 875776 and ask to speak with a Financial Assessment/Benefit Officer.
Can I claim any benefits to get help with my living expenses?
This depends on your current income. Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Job Seekers Allowance are all available to people on low incomes. As part of your financial assessment we will also offer you a benefit check to ensure that you are receiving all the benefits that you are entitled to.
Can I claim anything if I have a disability?
Disability Living Allowance is a benefit for people up to the age of 65 who need help with getting around, or help with personal care, or help with both of these.
