Do I have to report injuries at work?
Yes. If you are an employer, self-employed or in control of work premises, you are required by law to report some work-related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences.
The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) requires the following work related incidents to be reported:

I need advice on Health and Safety for my business – who can help me ?
There are 2 organisations in the Council which can provide advice regarding health and safety regulations for your business, it depends on the nature of your enquiry. Details for both are provided below, please ensure you contact the appropriate organisation for the nature of your enquiry.
Environmental Health Officers (EHO’s) from Slough Borough Council enforce and can provide advice on health and safety law at work in most food premises, residential care homes, retail premises, offices and other consumer services premises. Contact the Duty Officer (Food H&S) in the Commercial Services Team (Public Protection Services, Green & Built Environment Directorate) on 01753 875255.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) enforce and can provide advice on health and safety law at work in factories, manufacturing premises, construction sites, educational premises, hospitals and public service premises (Council Offices, Police etc). Contact the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Basingstoke on 01256 404000. Alternatively, you can look at the HSE website - Small business section specifically designed to help small businesses which has answers to the most frequently asked questions or call the HSE Infoline 0845 345 0055. HSE Infoline is your first point of contact with HSE. It’s a ‘one-stop’ shop, providing you with rapid access to HSE’s wealth of health and safety information, and access to expert advice and guidance. Any enquiry received by HSE Infoline is treated in confidence. If you call, you don’t have to give your name. What’s important, is that you get the information that you need.
Do I need to display any posters?
Yes, you need to display the health and safety law poster (ISBN 0 7176 2493 5) if you employ anyone.
Alternatively you can provide your employees with individual copies of the same information in a leaflet called ‘Your Health and Safety - a guide for workers’. The poster and leaflet are available from HSE Books. HSE Books, PO Box 1999, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 2WA. Tel: 01787 881165.
Do I need to register my business?
Yes, If you are a new business you will need to register either with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or us - depending on the sort of business you have.
Broadly speaking, you should register with either: the HSE by completing form F9 (notice of factory occupation) ; or us by completing our online form OSR1 (notice of employment of persons in office, shop or certain railway premises. This includes catering establishments, staff canteens, fuel storage depots).
What health and safety training courses are available in Slough ?
Slough Borough Council in partnership with East Berkshire College currently offer local businesses free and subsidised health & safety training courses for their staff. On successful completion of a training course, candidates can obtain a recognised qualification from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
