Does the council regulate for game (venison, etc)?
The council licenses traders in game in the area. Under the Game Act 1831 Act it is an offence to take or kill any game without a licence. The Game Licences Act 1860 extended this to the buying and selling of game.
What is included as game (animals and birds)?
Game' is deemed to include hares, pheasants, partridges, rabbits and deer. In general, many of the leading supermarket chains and some smaller high street or suburban stores hold game dealer’s licences.
The complicated licensing requirement means that, in effect, a licence is needed under each act for exactly the same activity. Slough Borough Council, in common with many other local authorities, has traditionally combined the two and just one Game Dealers Licence is issued.
Why do I need a licence to deal in game?
Under the Game Act 1831 Act it is an offence to take or kill any game without a licence. The Game Licences Act 1860 extended this to the buying and selling of game.
