Is permission required for locating a mobile food unit selling takeaways on public footways?
Yes. The prospective vendor needs a Street Trading Licence for a mobile food unit from Slough Borough Council. You should contact the Head of Licensing in Green and Built Environment to obtain application forms and advice. All mobile units would be removed outside of permitted trading hours.
Is permission required to erect a permanent kiosk on public footways selling hot and cold food and drinks, possibly with seating and tables available for customers?
Yes. Planning permission is required to erect a permanently sited kiosk for the sale of food and drinks. Any planning approval would be subject to adequate space remaining on the public footway to permit safe movement of pedestrians and the right standard of equipment and its maintenance and management.
In addition, a highway licence needs to be obtained to use part of the public highway. A separate Street Trading Licence is required. Planning, highways and Licensing application forms and advice are obtainable from the Green and Built Environment Department.
Is permission required to provide seats and tables outside of restaurants, cafes and wine bars and public houses on public footways in Slough Town Centre?
Yes. A highway licence is required for locating tables and chairs outside of existing premises selling food and drink for use by their customers on the public footway. Application forms, information and advice are available from Head of Highways Engineering of the Green and Built Department.
Where a pavement cafe is on a private forecourt, planning permission is required. Application forms, information and advice are available from the Head of Development Control of the Green and Built Environment Department.
