What happens if someone dies and the body is brought back to this country?
There has to be a certificate of "non-liability to register" produced to the burial or cremation authorities.
If the Coroner is not involved then the Registrar for the district where the body is to be buried or cremated will issue the paperwork but will need to see a valid death certificate and translation first.
A relative may obtain the certificate but in this case the undertaker can act for the family too. The Coroner will be involved if the cause of death is one which would have involved the Coroner if the death had taken place in this country.
