What happens to the cremated remains after the cremation has taken place?
The cremated remains can be scattered/strewn in the Gardens of Remembrance at Slough Crematorium, buried into a new grave or cremation plot or existing grave/cremation plot. They can be collected and taken to another cemetery or scattered at a favourite location (with prior permission from the owners of the land).
You may witness the scattering or burial, by making an appointment with us or arrange for us to do it on your behalf.
How soon after the service does the cremation take place?
Cremation usually takes places a few minutes after the funeral service has finished and the coffin has been moved from the chapel into the committal area.
All cremations at Slough Crematorium take place within 24 hours.
Is the coffin cremated at the same time or is it sold back to the funeral directors?
After the coffin has left the chapel through the committal hatch it is put into the cremator.
At no time is anything removed, except for the flowers on top, from the coffin.
Is it possible to witness the cremation?
It is possible, with prior arrangement, to witness the charging of the coffin into the cremator.
The cremation process can take up to 2 hours and it is not possible to provide the facilities for someone to witness the whole process.
How soon can the cremated remains be collected from the Crematorium?
The cremated remains are usually available the following day and can be collected by the Funeral Director or the Applicant, who arranged the funeral and signed the necessary paperwork, or someone nominated by the Applicant or by the Funeral Director.
How soon after a person has died can the cremation be arranged?
Within 24 hours depending on the completion of the necessary paperwork.
How many sets of cremated remains can you put in a cremation plot?
A cremation plot is dug for 4 sets of cremated remains.
How long is the funeral service for a cremation?
The service is usually 25 minutes long, but extra time can be booked at an additional cost of £95. This needs to be arranged at the time of the original booking.
Can more than one coffin be cremated in the same cremator at one time?
Due to the height and width restrictions of the cremators it is impossible to cremate more than one coffin at a time.
Do we need a religious minister to take the funeral service?
Anyone chosen by the family, whether family member or friend can officiate at the funeral service.
Are they really the deceased’s cremated remains?
When the coffin leaves the chapel and is brought into the committal area the name on the coffin is checked against the cremation authority slip that is given to the cremator technicians on the morning of the funeral. This slip is then attached to the outside of the cremator and stays with the cremated remains throughout the process, so we know the identity of the cremated remains at all times.
