How do I buy a grave?
If you would like to buy a plot please contact the cemetery staff who will be able to offer advice and guidance.
There is a form to be completed and once this has been submitted and the plot paid for, the process can be completed very quickly.
Who can buy a grave?
Anyone can buy a grave, although there is a surcharge made to non residents of Slough.
What is the difference between un-purchased and purchased graves?
An un-purchased grave is a public grave owned by the council for people who not able to afford to pay for a grave themselves.
A purchased grave is privately owned.
What happens to the flowers after the burial has taken place?
Flowers are left on the grave for 7 days and then disposed of.
What depth can the grave be dug to and how many burials can take place in that plot?
A grave can be dug to a depth of 10`6” allowing for up to four interments.
The usual depth is 6`6” allowing for 2 interments.
There can also be up to 10 sets of cremated remains put into the grave at a depth of 3`.
What are the height restrictions for headstones?
The headstone should be no higher than 3ft and the width should be no wider than 2ft and no less than 6 inches thickness (900mm x 600mm x 150mm).
Mini kerbsets should be no wider than 2ft 6inches and 2ft in length (750mm x 600mm).
Cremation plot memorials should measure no more than 2ft x 2ft and no more than 8 inches in height (600mm x 600mm x 230mm).
Is there a fee for fitting a headstone or any other memorial work?
Yes, the current fee is £60 for all memorial work.
How soon after the burial has taken place can we have a headstone fitted?
On lawn section graves the headstone can be fitted as soon as you wish as there is a concrete landing already in place.
For older non-lawn graves a term of 8 months is required for the grave to settle.
How long can I buy a grave for?
Under the Local Authorities Cemeteries Order of 1977 the grave is purchased on a lease basis. Slough Cemetery leases are for 50 years.
Can we put plants along the full length of the grave?
Not on lawn graves. There is an allowance made for plants etc at the top end of the grave in front of the headstone that measures 2ft 6inches and 2ft in length (750mm x 600mm).
Can we choose a grave?
Sadly, there is no provision for the choice of graves, but we will try to accommodate your needs if possible.
Can I bury cremated remains in the cemetery?
Yes you can, in either a cremation plot or an established grave such as a pre-purchased plot or family plot.
Are all the graves on consecrated ground?
No. it is up to the relatives of the deceased to arrange for the ground to be consecrated.
