What happens if my neighbour's dog is messy next door?
Discuss the behaviour of your neighbours dog with your neighbour first to find a mutually acceptable solution. Provide the your name and address, location of the mess and location of where the dogs come from.
What should I do about my dogs mess?
The council adopted the 'Dogs Fouling of Land Act 1996' which made it an offence if any person in charge of a dog failed to pick up after his dog fouled any land in the open air to which the public has access. This means parks, playing fields, alleyways, highway verges etc, but not people's gardens. The enforcement is carried out by our dog warden who patrols all streets, alleyways and parks.
We rely on members of the public to give us information on "black spots". The dog warden can issue tickets for an on the spot fine of £50. Alternatively, if someone is prosecuted they can be fined up to £1000. An education programme is ongoing and we are continuing to enforce the law. Our dog warden can be contacted on (01753) 875255
Where can I get poop scoop bags from?
If you cannot get specific 'poop scoop' bags, then use supermarket bags. Poop scoops and plastic doggie bags are available from pet shops. Plastic doggie bags cost about £1.50 for 50 bags. Please report any damage to dog bins to the Parks Development Officer.
