What is an educational psychologist?
Educational psychologists have qualifications and experience in teaching. They use their knowledge and skills to understand more about how children think, learn and behave.
They work with teachers, parents, children and young people to find ways of helping children and young people to make progress in their learning and other areas of development.

What if I am worried about my child seeing an educational psychologist
All parents will have concerns or worries about meeting with an educational psychologist. Fuller information is within the leaflet. What do I tell my child about seeing an educational psychologist?
The service has a booklet designed specifically for children, called 'What does an Educational Psychologist do?' (LCS-4716). This covers who an Educational Psychologist is, what they see, who they work with, and what will happen when the child sees an Educational Psychologist.
Who keeps records on my child and Educational Psychologist?
The educational psychologist service will keep records of any meetings, consultations, discussions and telephone conversations related to your child. You will always receive copies of letters, reports and consultations. We will let you know if other people need information who might be involved in helping your child.
