How do I go about getting help for my child in school?
In the first instance you should contact the child's school. You may also wish to contact the Parent Partnership Service, particularly if you want advice or support with the procedures.
What is the parent partnership service?
The parent partnership service, provides support and information for parents and carers, especially those who have children with special educational needs. It provides support and information for resolving disagreements in special educational needs between parents, schools and the local authority. It also can help with a bi-lingual support where English is an additional language.
Is there anyone who can help me with my child's statutory assessment / annual review / admissions or exclusion appeal?
One route is that the Parent Partnership Service can assist you with procedures such as filling in forms and writing letters. The Service can also support the citizen by accompanying you to meetings held at school or with the Local Education Authority (LEA) officers, health professionals or social workers taking notes for you if required.
Who can I talk to about my child's special educational needs?
The council has multiple resources to help.
