My child is about to be taken into care, will he/she be taken out of his/her school?
No, we will try to maintain their place in the school if possible.
Additional support can be provided for the child in the school by the looked after children educational services to try to ensure the child can continue in their current school. Where it is not possible, the child will be placed in a LAC unit until an appropriate place can be found in another school.
My child is being fostered outside the authority, who is responsible for their education?
Slough Borough Council remains responsible for the child's care and educational needs.
What is a personal educational plan and why does my child have one?
A personal educational plan is an additional educational requirement for looked after children to ensure the child is receiving appropriate education. It has clear targets set out in it for the child to achieve.
What is meant by looked after children?
Looked after children are children who are in the care of the local authority. There is a Looked after Children Team (LAC Team) who are responsible for the children.
The team can be contacted on 01753 577688.
What educational support is available for a looked after child?
We have a Looked after Children service (LAC) which monitors the educational progress of all children in its care and offers advice and support to both children and carers. Where required any special needs will be considered when making educational arrangements for looked after children.
For further advice please contact the LAC service on 01753 577688.
