How do I obtain a permit to erect scaffolding?
A scaffolding or hoarding licence is required for any scaffold or hoarding considered to be on or over the public highway. To obtain a license you should contact Building Control or, alternatively you can download a Scaffold Licence Application Form.
Can I put up scaffolding or hoarding?
We monitor scaffolding and hoarding on or over a public highway to ensure that public health and safety are not compromised. The erection of any structure on or over a public highway will require a licence from us before it can be put up.
The following is a guide: Complete a hoarding or scaffolding application form and send it to us together with the appropriate fee and the information required as stated on the form and guidance notes.
We normally require you to submit a site location plan and a dimensioned elevation plan together with any special precautionary measures you intend to take to safeguard public safety. You will also need to send us a copy of your public indemnity insurance.
We will aim to issue you with a licence within five working days. You should not commence with the erection of the structure until you receive this licence. The licence will contain conditions designed to secure the health and safety of the public. Licences are issued for a set period of time after which you must have safely removed the structure or applied for an extension to your licence.
