What is the Blue Badge Scheme?
The blue badge scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions for people with severe walking difficulties who travel either as drivers or passengers. The scheme also applies to registered blind people, and people with very severe upper limb disabilities who regularly drive a vehicle but cannot turn a steering wheel by hand. It allows badge holders to park close to their destination, but the national concessions apply only to on-street parking.

How much does the Blue Badge cost?
The current cost is £2 for three years. This can be paid by cheque or postal order. Please makes cheques payable to Slough Borough Council.

What is the procedure for applying for a blue badge?
You need to provide two passport sized photos, and return the completed application form to our customer service centre. Your doctor will be asked to confirm the nature of your disability.

When should I use my parking clock?
When parked in any time restricted location. The clock must show your time of arrival and be displayed next to your Blue Badge on your vehicle’s dashboard.
Who can inspect my Blue Badge?
The following have the power to inspect your badge:
If you don't show your Blue Badge, you will be breaking the law and you could be fined £1000.
Who can use a Blue Badge?
The badge is for the holders use only and they must be using the vehicle when the badge is being displayed. Badge holders must never allow someone to display their badge if they are not using it. It is a criminal offence for you or anyone else to misuse your badge and it can lead to a £1000 fine and criminal record.
When should I renew my badge?
You should allow a minimum of 2 weeks for us to process your application. Renewal applications are treated in the same way new applications are and so the relevant documents, evidence and photographs should be attached with the renewal forms.
Do I have to send 2 photographs to apply for a Blue Badge?
Yes you do and preferably the photo must be within the last year. The photo must be of passport size but does not have to be the passport style so long as the persons face is visible when the photo is cut down.
If I move out of Slough do I need to do anything about my Blue Badge?
No. The badge can be used nation wide so you can take the badge with you. When the badge is up for renewal you will need to contact the local council in your new area to apply for a replacement.
I have two cars, can I have two Blue Badges?
No. The Blue Badge is for the person and not the vehicle. Hence the badge will be displayed in the vehicle that is being used at the time.
Please note that it is advisable to keep the badge with you when it is not being used.
Do I need to exchange my Orange Badge for a Blue Badge?
No. When your badge is next renewed it will be replaced with a blue one.
Can I get on the disability register for employment purposes?

How do I get my name on the disability register for Slough Borough Council?

What happens if my Blue Badge is misused?
You may face a fine of £1000, a court appearance and criminal record. Your badge may also be permanently withdrawn.
Can I use my badge after it has expired?
No. You will be misusing it if you do. You will be liable to any parking fines issued, may be prosecuted and you will jeopardise any future applications for a new Blue Badge.
