I'm on the council housing register, how many offers of houses will I get?
Unless you are in Band A or agreed as homeless, you can have an unlimited number of offers until you find the best match to your needs.

My home is too large for me, is there anything the Council can do?

What are part rent part buy /shared ownership schemes - can I be considered?
Housing associations often have properties where you can buy and own a percentage, either through a lump sum payment or with the help of a mortgage. You pay rent on the percentage you don’t own. This is cheaper than buying a whole property all at once, and you can increase the amount you own. These schemes help people on lower incomes to become owner occupiers.
How long will I need to wait to be housed?
A typical wait is between 3-7 years, although it can take longer.
How does the Housing Register work?
Applications are held in registration date order in one of seven bands, A to G. which identify different housing needs. Offers are made to the longest registered applicant in a selected band according to the size, type and location of the available property.
Can you help me find a privately rented home I can afford on my low income?
The housing advisors can put you in touch with private landlords or nominate you to shared facility or hostel accommodation through the housing register.
Can I refuse an offer of accommodation made to me by the Council?
Unless you are agreed as homeless or are in Band A then you can refuse as many offers as we make to you.
Can I choose the home I want?
The Council has a range of both Local Authority and Housing Association accommodation. We give all applicants a choice of where they want to live, what type of property they want and what landlord they would like.
Can anyone join the Housing Register?
Anyone over 16 can apply and all applications will be assessed. Applicants who are subject to immigration controls are not eligible to join.
You may also be ineligible if you have been evicted from your last settled address for nuisance or harassment, have had significant rent arrears, been in serious breach of tenancy, convicted of a violent offence or fraudulently obtained a tenancy.
