Who provides community meals (meals on wheels) and how do I get assessed for this service?
The community meals section manages the service and contracts a company called Appetito to supply and deliver the meals.

I am no longer able to cook meals for myself. What help can Social Services provide?
This is linked to the eligibility criteria. Visit first by Community Meals service to ensure this is met.
Do I have to pay for the meals on wheels service?
Yes, £3.30 per hot meal per day (dinner and sweet) and for the frozen food service, £2.80 per meal.
Can I have a 'seven day a week' mobile meals service?
Yes 24x7x365 and also for any period less than 7 days.
Do I have to have mobile meals 7 days a week?
No, the meal service suits your lifestyle. You can receive meals on any day or combination of days a week.
We do have a minimum cut off for meal cancellations of before 10am on the day of delivery, to avoid being charged.
How does the frozen food service work?
It is delivered fortnightly to you on a Monday. Community Meals supply a freezer and microwave free of charge with the frozen meals option.
A menu book is delivered so you can choose 14 meals from the menu and have them delivered on the Monday.
The cost for this is £2.80 per meal.
Is there an evening meal option for meals on wheels?
This is not currently available but we are discussing the possibility of a teatime service, providing soup, sandwiches, etc.
What time will meals be delivered by the meals on wheels service?
Appetito have a fresh meal delivery timeslot of between 12:00 and 14:00. If they fail to deliver within this timeslot, you receive your meal for free.
There is currently no frozen meal delivery timeslot, delivery could be anytime between 08:00 and 14:00.
Can you plate up my mobile meals and serve them up to me?
This can be done as part of the Social Care assessment process, if deemed eligible.
Do I have a choice of mobile meal each day?
Yes, have menu choice and chosen on a weekly basis, receive on Monday, back on Thursday and 5 hot meal choices and hot/cold dessert.
How do I pay for my meals on wheels service?
You can pay the drivers at the time of delivery, any day of week. Cash and cheques are accepted.
You are however, encouraged to pay upfront, if possible.
Will my dietary needs and cultural food preferences be taken into account by the meals on wheels service?
Yes, if you don't eat something, Appetito (contracted meal supplier) enter your requirements, e.g. allergies, into their computer to only show recipes omitting the relevant foods.
Cultural requirements are also met, we can supply English, Asian, Afro-Caribbean, Kosher and Halal meals along with Diabetic, soft and pureed meals to suit requirements.
