What is the garden waste collection scheme and how do I register?
The garden waste scheme is free of charge. Residents must register to join and then will be issued with a green bin for garden waste. This bin is collected fortnightly and the garden waste is taken for recycling.
To register, call Enterprise on 0800 634 6301 or email your name and address to greenwaste@slough.gov.uk. You will then be told when the next delivery of green bins will be. You should get your green bin within 6 weeks.
When is my green bin collected?
Green bins are collected fortnightly on a different day to waste and recycling. Scheme members are sent a calendar with their collection dates at the end of May every year. Or, the collection day page can tell you when your green waste will be collected.
Please note all bins should be out from 7am on the collection day. All bins should be taken in as soon as possible after collection.
What can I put in the green garden waste bin?
Garden waste only:
Do not include:
Do not overload your bin - we are unable to collect overloaded bins.
Do not put any carrier bags or bin liners in your green bin - we cannot collect any bagged material. Items placed into the bin in carrier bags may be classed as contamination and the bin will not be emptied. We are unable to collect contaminated bins.
Please place your garden waste directly inside the green bin.
For instances of either overloading or contamination of bins you will be responsible for disposal.
Why can’t kitchen waste or food be put in the green bin?
Kitchen waste must not go in the green bin due to strict rules in the composting process we use. The scheme can't accept large volumes of fruit in the wheeled bins. This includes fruit produced in your garden by plantations. The crop produced must be disposed separately in the grey bin or at the Chalvey Waste and Recycling Centre, White Hart Road, off Spackmans Way.
If you wish to recycle kitchen waste you may like to buy a discounted home composter. Our home composting page has more details on composting and on the discounted home composter.
What if I have a lot of garden waste?
We can only collect garden waste placed inside the green bin. Please take any additional garden waste, including large branches and stumps, to Chalvey Waste and Recycling Centre, White Hart Road, off Spackmans Way.
You may wish to buy a home composter to complement your green bin. Home composters will mean that you can also compost your food waste at home. Details of a home composter can be found on this site.
Can I take my green bin with me if I move house within Slough?
Unfortunately, green bins cannot be transferred between properties. If you are moving to another property in Slough please contact us to register the new property. You will then be advised as to the timing of the next green bin roll out.
Can I still use biodegradable bags with my green bin?
Biodegradable bags are no longer available or necessary for those residents using the green bin scheme. Please place your garden waste directly into the green bin.
What are the rules of the scheme?
What are the benefits of collecting greenwaste?
What if the crew forgets to empty my bin?
In the unlikely event that crews forget to empty the green waste bin please contact Enterprise on 0800 634 6301. If your bin was presented for collection by 7am for that day's collection and was not contaminated or overloaded then we will endeavour to return as soon as possible to empty the wheeled bin.
Can I use my green waste bin to recycle my Christmas tree?
Yes, please make the tree has been cut up to fit into the bin.
