What is the council doing about graffiti?
Graffiti is words or drawings, that are written, painted, sprayed or scratched on the surface of any property.
Enterprise currently operates a graffiti hit squad during normal office hours, Monday to Friday. Call the anti-social behaviour hotline on 01753 875298. Graffiti can be removed from highway or council property quickly. If it is on private property, we must get the permission of the owner.
How do I get graffiti removed?
The council can only remove graffiti from council land and buildings. Removal of graffiti from private property can only be done with the authority of the owner. We have no jurisdiction on private property – this is the responsibility of the owners. So, if the graffiti is on council land and buildings please call the anti-social behaviour hotline on 01753 875298 or email streets@Slough.gov.uk.
A simple solution to graffiti on wood and previously painted surfaces is to paint over it. For best results, the graffiti could be scrubbed or even primed (particularly when it’s darker colour graffiti). Anti-graffiti paints are available which make removal a lot easier.
Graffiti on non-porous surfaces like masonry paint, tiles, shinny bricks and glossy paints can often be scrubbed off with strong detergent and lots of elbow grease. It’s likely that traces will be left but this may fade over time or easily painted over.
This can be removed with the help of specialised removal products available from hardware stores but it depends on the surface involved. Check the instructions before using any of these products.
Or, you may wish to use a specialist company listed in the local phone directory.
The information given here for removing graffiti is for general guidance only and the council accepts no liability for damage resulting from the removal of graffiti. If in doubt consult a professional removal company for advice.
What should I do if I see someone spraying a public property with graffiti?
To report graffiti, contact the police on 101 stating the location, nature of the graffiti, times and dates. Or contact the anti-social behaviour hotline on 01753 875298.
