More than 3 million young people, from over 50 countries around the world, have taken part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. The aim of the Scheme is to widen the horizons and experiences of young people by encouraging a wide range of interests.
The scheme gives the participants the opportunity to take part in some of their favourite activities outside of school or take up new and challenging activities. It can also lead them to highly regarded awards.
The Award consists of three levels of achievement, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level has four key elements: physical recreation, skills, service and expeditions. The Gold level also includes a residential project.
