One of the key aspects of the Local Development Framework (LDF) involves the production of a core strategy. The core strategy addresses the most important issues and challenges facing the use of land in Slough until 2026 and the management of future devleopment such as houses, shops, leisure, employment and community facilities; whilst at the same time protecting and enhancing the environment of the town.
The core strategy contains a spatial vision, spatial objectives, a spatial strategy and also the key policies needed for its implementation. All subsequent documents produced as part of the LDF will build on the principles set out in the Core Strategy.
The Core Strategy has been found Sound. For further information please select the Core Strategy Examination link below.
Slough Borough Council submitted its Core Strategy to the Secretary of State in November 2007. The submission was followed by a six weeks consultation which ended on the 21 December 2007 which resulted in a number of 'site allocation representations'.
According to Regulation 32 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004 it is the Council's responsibility to consult on these alternative proposals and provide the opportunity for representations to be made. We undertook a further six weeks public consultation period which ended on Friday 18 April on these specific areas to allow for further comments to be made.

The core strategy, sustainability appraisal and all other supporting, evidence base and background documents were submitted to the Secretary of State on 9 November 2007 for examination.
At the same time as the Core Strategy was submitted, a final 6 week consultation period was undertaken and this ended on Friday the 21 of December. The Council received representations from 41 respondents, and these can be viewed by selecting the link below.
The examination, which took place from the 13 to 23 of May 2008 was undertaken by an independent examiner who will determine whether Slough's core stategy is 'sound'. The Inspector that has been appointed to examine the document is Sue Turner (RIBA, MRTPI, IHBC, Barch, MSc). For further information relating to the examination, please select the link below.
The Core Strategy and supporting documents, including the Submission Response Form, Submission DPD Matters and Index of Documents Submitted are available to download as well as being available to view at the Town Hall. The core strategy is also available to view at the Council's four Libraries. (See the DPD Matters below for full address details).
This report assesses the likely social, environmental and economic effects of the submitted core strategy and has been undertaken jointly with the strategic environmental assessment. The Final Sustainability Appraisal Report for November 2007 can be downloaded below.
In preparing the submission core strategy, the council has taken account of the responses received as part of consultation undertaken at the Issues and Options, and Preferred Options stages of the Core Strategy. Details of these documents, and the consultation responses received can be found within the 'archived core strategy documents' link below.
The core strategy has also been based on an extensive evidence base, as well as having regard to a number of background documents. A link to these documents can be found below, as well as a link to the documents which support the submission of the Core Strategy.
When the Core Strategy 2006-2026 was approved for submission to the Secretary of State by Full Council on 9 Oct 2007, approval was also obtained to allow the document to be used for development control purposes. As a result, these policies are now a material consideration, alongside the Local Plan, when a planning permission application is considered.
Under the planning legislation, the policies in the Local Plan for Slough were only saved until September 2007. In order to extend the life of selected Local Plan policies the Council submitted a list of the policies it wanted to be saved to GOSE in March 2007.
A total of 87 out of 140 Local Plan policies were therefore proposed to be saved. In September the Secretary of State confirmed that all of the requested Slough Local Plan policies had been saved. Details of the saved (and deleted) policies are provided below.
