The Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 focused on the need for a change to real sustainable development. It challenged countries to address global environmental concerns and showed the need for action at a local level to achieve this.
This local contribution to improve and protect the global environment is known as Local Agenda 21, the need to ‘think globally and act locally.’
