Home to school transport

Pupils from non-low income families

Pupils of statutory school age attending maintained schools are provided with a free travel pass if:

they live in the borough of Slough and
they attend their designated school and
they live more than two miles from school if they are aged under eight or more than three miles if they are aged between eight and 16 years

Pupils from low income families

(a) Primary Pupils

Pupils aged eight to 11 years (years 4 to 6) who live more than two miles from their nearest qualifying school are provided with a free travel pass if they are:

entitled to Free School Meals OR
their parents are in receipt of their maximum level of Working Tax Credit.

The 2 mile limit is measured as the shortest available walking route.

(b) Secondary Pupils

Pupils aged 11 to 16 years (years 7 to 11) who live more than two miles from one of three “nearest qualifying schools” are provided with a free travel pass if they are:

entitled to Free School Meals OR
their parents are in receipt of their maximum level of Working Tax Credit.

The 2 mile limit is measured as the shortest available walking route.

Pupils aged 11 to 16 years (years 7 to 11) who live more than two miles but less than 15 miles from the nearest suitable school preferred on grounds of religious belief, are provided with a free pass if they are:

entitled to Free School Meals OR
their parents are in receipt of their maximum level of Working Tax Credit.

The 2 mile limit is measured as the shortest available walking route.

NB For parents applying under this criterion - a new application needs to be submitted every school year.

Home to school transport policy and application

To apply for transport you will need to complete and return a transport application form, found below with 2 passport-sized photos to the address detailed at the top of the form.

The transport team will notify you of the outcome of your application within 10 working days of receipt of a correctly completed form.

Transport to school on religious grounds

Slough Borough Council no longer offers transport to school based purely on religious grounds unless the pupil is of secondary school age and from a low income family. Please refer to the home to school transport section above for information on applying for assistance.

Slough Post 16 Travel Policy 2011-12

Post 16 reduced fare cards scheme for 2011/12 is now closed.

Slough LA has its own transport policy statement for students aged 16-18 in further education and for continuing students aged 19 and over.

The Department for Education has introduced a new bursary scheme for 16-19 year olds to be administered by schools and colleges themselves. If you are eligible for access to this bursary scheme, any funding you receive can be used towards transport costs.
