The Town & Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 makes provision for certain types of development to be carried out without the need for a formal planning application.
In some circumstances, Slough Borough Council, as your Local Planning Authority may wish to prevent people from exercising these rights in order to retain control on the way in which the development is carried out. This is done by means of a direction under Article 4 of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 Order.
Article 4 directions remove specified "permitted development" rights and therefore require a formal planning application to be submitted where one would not normally be required. Alternatively, the Council may have removed some of your Permitted Development rights by a condition on the original approval for the house or estate. You would usually know if your property is affected by such a direction or condition but you can contact the Planning Section to check.
