Street trading is defined as “the selling or exposing or offering for sale of any article (including living thing) in a street”.
Street trading consents are issued by the council to flower sellers, fast food providers (both hot and cold), fruit and vegetable and hot potato sellers.
Consents apply to all streets within the borough including any private land within ten metres of the roadside, but only certain streets have been designated where static street trading can take place.
Mobile street traders such as ice cream vendors and mobile sandwich operators also require a street trading consent and operate throughout the borough with a limit of 20 minutes stationary at one location.
Street trading consents can be issued on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, six monthly or annual basis and will be subject to all street trading conditions. Consents are issued in accordance with the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.
